Lanes have been reopened after an equipment line was struck by lightning along Interstate 10 in the San Antonio area near Seguin on Sunday, April 19, according to CPS Energy.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office first posted about the incident around 11 a.m., “13000 block of IH 10 will be shut down going West and East due to a downed powerline.” The incident occurred on the far Eastside of San Antonio near FM 1518. CPS Energy told MySA the equipment supporting the power line was struck by lightning during overnight storms. The crews were dispatched to make necessary repairs.
“As part of this proactive work, our law enforcement partners temporarily paused traffic for approximately 15 minutes to allow crews to complete repairs safely,” CPS Energy stated. “This precaution was taken to ensure the safety of both the public and CPS Energy employees.”
Traffic is not expected to be stopped again, according to CPS Energy. However, the utility company advises drivers to Move Over or Slow Down as crews remain on site to safely secure the equipment and complete repairs, helping prevent further issues.
CPS Energy has been working on outages all night and morning after a storm rolled through the area overnight. About 171 customers are without power due to 14 outages as of 1:44 p.m., according to a CPS outage map.Â
A downed power line has shut down both directions of Interstate 10 in the San Antonio area on Sunday, April 19, according to a Facebook post from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).
Officials posted about the incident around 11 a.m., stating the “13000 block of IH 10 will be shut down going West and East due to a downed powerline.” CPS Energy is currently on scene and is expected to take about an hour for repairs, BCSO said.Â
“Please avoid this area and find alternate routes,” the BCSO stated.
CPS Energy has been working on outages all night and morning after a storm rolled through the area overnight. About 67 customers are without power due to 13 active outages as of 11:30 a.m., according to an outage map. CPS Energy wrote on X that it’s committed to restoring power to every impacted customer as “quickly and safely as possible.”
“We thank our customers for their patience and understanding of our crews as they keep #safetyfirst in mind,” CPS Energy wrote.
