Reigning national champion and No. 2 Texas staved off elimination Sunday afternoon, rallying past No. 4 Nebraska 3-1 to advance to the Women’s College World Series semifinals in Oklahoma City. Katie Stewart, who had been hitless in the WCWS to that point, delivered a three-run home run to left field to break open a game in which national player of the year Jordy Frahm had carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

Frahm also provided Nebraska’s only offense earlier, launching a leadoff solo home run in the first inning, but the Cornhuskers were unable to answer the late Texas surge. Teagan Kavan allowed just three hits the rest of the way as Texas closed it out.

Nebraska’s season came to an end, closing the book on Frahm’s illustrious college career after a run that included two national championships and a central role in Oklahoma’s title success before she transferred back to her home state.

The eight-team WCWS field will be cut in half by the end of Sunday as No. 8 UCLA meets No. 11 Texas Tech in a matchup between two of the most powerful lineups in the country. The Bruins, the national leaders in home runs, have already left the yard six times through their first two games in Oklahoma City and continue to lean on an offense capable of changing a game with a single swing. Texas Tech, last year’s national runner-up, has been just as dangerous in its own right and now faces another elimination test with a chance to extend its return trip to the WCWS.

Nebraska joined No. 5 Arkansas (0-2) and Mississippi State (0-2), whose seasons ended earlier in the weekend. No. 7 Tennessee and No. 1 Alabama have already secured spots in the semifinals after advancing through the winners bracket. The Volunteers will face Texas on Monday afternoon, while the final semifinal spot will be determined later Sunday night to complete the four-team field.
