Bank of America to move into Baton Rouge Towne Center | Business

Written by

National financial institution Bank of America will make its Baton Rouge debut.

After previous attempts to expand into the state, Bank of America will set up shop at 2370 Towne Center Blvd., permit filings indicate. The national banker previously announced intentions to move into New Orleans in 2023 as part of a broader expansion into new markets but has not opened any branches there yet.

Bank of America spokesperson Matthew Daily said the company now plans to open branches in Baton Rouge and New Orleans in the second half of 2027. The branches will offer banking, retirement, investing and lending services.

The 2370 Towne Center Blvd. building is home to other tenants including Essential Credit Union and Apothecare Pharmacy. There are seven total suites in the building, with a few still available for lease.

Bank of America will join a finance-heavy area, with other local and national banks nearby including Currency Bank, Cadence Bank, Louisiana National Bank and Chase, and wealth management firms including Raymond James, Wells Fargo and UBS. Houma-based Synergy Bank recently announced plans to build a flagship Baton Rouge branch right by Towne Center, set to open at the end of 2027.

Bank of America is the second-largest bank in the country by deposits, with $1.98 trillion in deposits as of the end of fiscal year 2025, accounting for about 11% of the U.S. market, according to FDIC data. It has about 3,800 banks spread across 38 states and the District of Columbia.

Until now, the bank had a limited presence in Louisiana and other nearby states including Mississippi and Alabama. There are no Bank of America branches in the state, though Baton Rouge is home to a few offices of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, a Bank of America brand.

The company appointed a market president for New Orleans and Baton Rouge in 2023 with a goal of opening five banks in New Orleans and 10 in the region over time.
