The 2025 PGA Tour season comes to an end Sunday with the Tour Championship wrapping up four rounds at its long-time home: East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings all started from the same spot in their pursuit of the FedEx Cup title, as the old starting strokes format was retired. The man who comes out on top at East Lake Golf Club will take home the Tour Championship trophy, FedEx Cup trophy and a $10 million paycheck, as the PGA Tour is shelling out $40 million in total prize money for the event.
The overwhelming favorite this week was Scottie Scheffler, fresh off his fifth win of the year at the BMW Championship. While Scheffler already collected nearly $20 million in prize money and bonuses in the playoffs, the world No. 1 is looking to cap off a lucrative August with one more win and big payday.
Scheffler will have to come from behind once again if he wants to go back to back at the Tour Championship. He slid to fifth place — four shots back of the co-leaders — through 54 holes but remains within striking distance of winning consecutive tournaments and FedEx Cups.
Tommy Fleetwood — winless in his PGA Tour career — remains in the top spot, but 36-hole co-leader Russell Henley was replaced with Patrick Cantlay, who shot one of Saturday’s lowest rounds to make a significant run. Cantlay, the 2021 FedEx Cup winner, has not won a PGA Tour event since 2022, so while his drought may not be as long as that of Fleetwood, it’s neverthless been a painstaking few years on the circuit. Henley entered the Tour Championship as one of the most trendy selections, and he’s done nothing but confirm the faith that experts and fans placed in him this week.
