Blue Jays’ Guerrero Jr., Clement lead AL positional groups in all-star voting

Written by

A couple of Toronto Blue Jays could be on their way to Philadelphia for All-Star Week.

Guerrero Jr. has 603,014 votes, with runner-up Ben Rice of the New York Yankees close behind at 509,830. Clement has 904,702 votes, over 600,000 more than second-place Ezequiel Duran of the Texas Rangers.

The Blue Jays first baseman has had a slow start to the season, batting .280 with three home runs and a .738 OPS. He’s looking for his sixth straight all-star nod.

Clement, on the other hand, is in line for his first appearance at the mid-summer classic. The 30-year-old is batting .304 with seven home runs and a .784 OPS and an AL-leading 20 doubles.

A few other Blue Jays are in line to be voted into the all-star game, as catcher Alejandro Kirk, third baseman Kazuma Okamoto, shortstop Andres Gimenez and designated hitter George Springer all sit second in vote-getting for their respective positions.

Designated hitter Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros is the leading vote-getter in the AL with 1,015,768 votes, while Los Angeles Dodgers DH Shohei Ohtani leads the NL with 1,165,133.

The MLB All-Star Game will take place on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Phillies.
