Chicago White Sox-Atlanta Braves series finale postponed

Written by

The Chicago White Sox-Atlanta Braves game scheduled for Thursday evening at Rate Field was postponed because of a storm system making its way through northern Illinois.

The game will be made up at 1:10 p.m. Aug. 20.

The entire Chicago metropolitan area is under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. and flood watch until 11 p.m.

The White Sox (36-31) won the first two games of the series against the Braves (45-23) — who have the best record in Major League Baseball — to move into first place in the American League Central. It’s the first time they’ve held a division lead this late in the season in five years.

Outfielder Braden Montgomery hit a two-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning in his major-league debut Tuesday to give the Sox a 6-5 victory. A night later, the Sox won 2-1 to leapfrog the Cleveland Guardians by a half-game in the AL Central.

The Sox next play host to the two-time-defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series Friday-Sunday at Rate Field.
